LCD monitors refer to monitors that use LCD technology. LCD is an abbreviation for Liquid Crystal Display.

LCD, short for Liquid Crystal Display refers to the technology used to make the LCD panel. In this case, many electronic components called transistors are used for this panel. Hence, the contrast could be unevenly distributed in the panel. It could cause deep contrast or blackness at one side and brightness at another side.

LCD, an abbreviation for Liquid Crystal Display refers to the scientific technology that is used to make the LCD panel. The panel for a computer monitor has a number of transistors, which are arranged in a certain way to display the relevant texts and images. Under normal circumstances, you may not think of your computer monitor and its relevant specifications when you purchase your desktop.

Many people fail to do the thinking that the computer monitor is not that important. However, the monitor is responsible for displaying the texts and images. If the LCD monitor has poor resolution and contrast ratio, your eyes might feel tired and painful after one or two hours of staring at the computer screen.

If you use a screen filter, bear in mind that it only helps to reduce the radiation rays mainly UV rays from your computer. Therefore, checking on the properties of your monitor is indeed important. Apart from the possibility of affecting your eyes and perhaps, causing eye problems later on, you might not be able to continue your important work due to tired eyes.

So, do not simply purchase the monitor for your computer. If you think that your current monitor is causing some issues, get a new one. It is definitely worth the price. Think about features like swivel, height, tilt and pivot as well. Choose the one that will suit your position when doing your work.

Shopping for a new computer, searching for one with a LCD monitor can be easy to spot. Remember as far back as 5 years ago when you would see one with a big CRT, or Cathode Ray Tube monitor. Gone of the days of the tube displays. Liquid Crystal Display monitors are quickly becoming affordable when it comes to the computer market and can be easily replaced for a couple of hundreds of dollars.

CRT monitors can take up a lot of space on a medium sized desk, putting other peripherals out of place. Owning a LCD monitor for the first time will surely make a difference as it will give you plenty of space you did not know you had! If you have a CRT monitor around that still works, it does have a few benefits such as a wider range of colors.

When LCD screens were new to the market, the cost of one was more on the expensive side. However, LCD monitors are now easy to invest in depending on the size and definition specifications. LCDs are much smaller and can give the user plenty of work space, and they are also known for crystal clear display areas.

Not only that CRTs can become a nuance on the desk, but LCDs are in favor in the age of eco friendly appliances. CRT screens generates a lot of heat and power during heavy usage. In the case of LCDs, it is very green friendly with a myriad of power saving features, and because LCD monitors do not use tubes at all.

CRT monitors can last a long time if taken care of properly. A LCD monitor may run under the expected lifespan as the monitor uses the backlight bulb to illuminate the screen. These bulbs may run as high as getting a brand new monitor. Depending on the service facility, you might get lucky to find a cheap replacement bulb.

In the end, LCD monitors are the winner. If a CRT monitor can be found, there is still a lot of nostalgia to be found for first generation computers to go out of their way to own. But for the sake of economy and appeal, a LCD monitor is the way to go.

LCD monitors are very popular amongst computer users nowadays. Before they came into existence, we were using really big and heavy screens called CRT monitors. They needed a lot of space and were not pleasant to look at. This article will give you some information on buying an LCD monitor that is right for you.

LCD screens used to be really expensive. However, since so many people started buying them and the demand increased greatly, the price dropped significantly. It is now possible to buy an LCD screen for very little money, even if it has a large screen size.

When buying a screen, you may need to pay attention to its viewing angles. These angles dictate how good the picture looks when it is being viewed from various locations around the screen. However, if you will be viewing the screen from a straight on angle, this specification will not be of any importance to you.

Some LCD screens have what is called a twisted nematic panel, which is also called a TN panel. These screens are the most affordable kind and look great when you are right in front of them. However, the viewing angle is very narrow, so the picture may not be easy to look at from different locations around the screen.

While some monitors contain TN panels, others have VA panels, or vertical alignment panels. Such screens have better angles for viewing and also have higher levels of brightness. These screens are supposed to display colors with greater accuracy and are great at reproducing black. VAs are more costly than TNs, but not by too much.

The type of monitor that has the best angles for watching the screen and viewing colors is the kind with IPS panels, which is referred to as in-plane switching panels. However, this kind costs the most and is slower than the other types.

If you have a computer that tends to slow down when you are playing your favorite games, it may be time to investigate graphics cards. By improving the card, your computer will be better able to keep up with your favorite new games.

While many computer users never need to change the card in their machine, persons that spend a lot of time playing games may find that they need the extra speed that can only be provided by upgrading the graphics cards. A slow response time in many of these games can be annoying and may take all the fun out of the game. To improve your computer’s performance, change the card and you will see an immediate improvement.

Graphics cards are all produced by either NVIDIA or ATI. They may be repackaged and sold using different brand names, but all cards are ultimately produced by these two companies. Cards are available in a wide range of prices. They are generally broken down into those selling for less than 200 dollars and those selling in the 200-300 dollar range. In general the more expensive cards are considered the best.

You will want to choose a card that provides its own ram for the fastest processing. Cards that depend on the machine’s ram are generally slower.

According to your use of your computer, you may find that last years best card which has now dropped in price is a great deal. Card prices do drop as new cards are developed and many of the current games are built on the technology of the older card. You do need to realize that you may have to replace that card in a couple of years for the newer games then, so you may want to consider the newer card that cost more to save money in the end.

Graphics cards can be used to improve a computer’s efficiency if you are playing games that require very intense graphics levels.

Do you know how your laptop came into being? If not, here’s a rather interesting history about its origins. The first portable computer was built during 1981. It was named Osborne. It was a clumsy, heavy contraption, and did not resemble the laptops of today, yet it was a major breakthrough in technology because it proved that computers could be portable.

Next was the Compaq Portable in 1983. Although called ‘portable’, like its predecessor it was just has heavy and cumbersome. But it was the first transportable computer that was IBM compatible. Although it needed electricity to operate, it ran off MS-DOS.

The first laptop that came close to the ones we are familiar with today was the GriD Compass 1101, designed by Bill Moggridge, and released during 1982. This computer was housed in a magnesium case which is similar to the clam shell casings that we see on modern laptops.

Two other attention-grabbers came out in the 1980s, namely the PC-5000 made by Sharp and the Gavilan SC. It was the Gavilan that evoked the most interest because the word ‘laptop’ was used to market it. But the biggest seller was the Kyocera 85 which operated with batteries and therefore it was genuinely portable.

In 1986 and 1987 Toshiba and IBM attracted even more interest. IBM’s PC Convertible, Toshiba’s T1200 and the Toshiba RT1200 were even more sophisticated. These three models paved the way for major progress in laptop technology. By the year 1995, everyone was talking about these revolutionary portable computers called laptops.

Now here in the 21st Century we can hardly imagine life without our laptops! We tend to forget that not too long ago computers were owned by very few people. They were classed as luxury items. Quite the opposite applies today. What would our lives be like without computers, especially laptops?

With the convenience of laptops, we are not bound to our homes or offices. Just walk into any restaurant, hotel or other public place and you will see men, women and children busy on their laptops. They are used for entertainment purposes, business purposes and research purposes.

There is no doubt that the laptop caused a mini revolution. Our laptops enable us to sit in any corner of the globe and pay our bills, book flights, or converse face-to-face with our family and friends, no matter where they live. Accessories for laptops include USB cables, battery packs, webcam and, for those PC gaming addicts, you can get a joystick.

When you are looking for a printer there are so many different ones that are available things can get confusing. This is not the case if you know what each of them are capable of doing and how they of course can benefit you. To make your job easier I have given you some details of the most popular printers.

There are in all too many to mention and some that you will more than likely never make use of, which is the reason I have only included the main ones so as not to confuse you. Starting with the most simplistic will is a dot matrix. This is used mainly nowadays for till receipts rather than printing off A4 documents like others.

The way this kind of printer works is that it prints in small dots. These are done separately to create the printout that you need whether it is by pictures numbers or letters.

A plotter tends to be used by those who are in a profession where accurate diagrams are needed. In order to get the precision you have to wait longer than some of the latest models, but it is definitely worthwhile for the end results.

A popular choice by both those who need a printer at home and in the workplace is the laser. This is more complex in its workings than other kinds but is easy for the user and usually has extra functions that can be used by professionals and novice alike. The actual printer can be costly but when it comes to getting the best quality without having to take out a small mortgage for ink you have the right machine.

The speed is another benefit that this kind can provide so you can see why so many choose it when they have little time to sit and wait yet need to get the work completed.

The inkjet and the bubble jet printers have their benefits also because the main device can be bought quite cheaply. The inks you need to run it are the main expenditure but if you dont use the printer often then you will find that for quality and efficiency it is sufficient.

If you’ll take a moment to think back to the late nineties, do you remember how prohibitively expensive laptops were back then? A cheap laptop was unheard of. A new one would run you in the two thousand dollar range while even a used one would cost about a grand.

These days you can find a good rig in every price range, from a hundred bucks to a few grand. It’s all a matter of what you need, and knowing where to look for it.

With that in mind, here’s where to look for it…

Computer Sales

This one is quite obvious. The people who sell computers are always slashing prices simply because everyone’s making laptops these days, but only a few really hog up all the sales. So the end result is a ton of great computers rotting on store shelves because they didn’t have as strong a marketing campaign as their competition.

Geek Buddies

We’ve all got at least one buddy who absolutely must have the latest stuff. They trade their car in on a bi-annual basis, they keep moving to a slightly bigger apartment whenever their lease is up, and they’re always sporting a new laptop. Next time they’re ready to upgrade, let them know that you’ll buy their computer for less than you’d usually pay for it used, but more than they could ever hope to get on a trade in. You both win.

Used Laptops

Just be careful going this route. Used laptops typically need a little refurbishing if you don’t know that the person who sold it to you took good care of it. You might have to spend a couple extra bucks fixing it up, so make sure you get a great deal. Just buy through reliable resources. The want ads MIGHT get you a great deal, but they’re not exactly the best around when it comes to the matter of accountability.

Get’em Online

You want to give each laptop a test run in person to see how it runs, to see how the touchpad and keypad feel, but you should do your actual buying online, as you can always shop around and get better deals with the whole industry at your fingertips than you can when you’re restricted to just the computer stores in driving distance.

“Gently Outdated”

They’re always putting out something newer and fancier. This doesn’t mean the old ones are no good, just that the old ones are cheaper. Keep an eye out for great laptops that are getting an overhaul from the manufacturer in the near future. When the new model comes out, snatch up the old one.

London is one of the major capitals of the world and is a great choice of location for hosting conferences and similar events. The name “London” is often used to describe not just the capital itself but the surrounding area though, in fact, the correct term for London and its environs is “Greater London”.

Hosting an event in the centre of London will often make it more attractive to potential attendees than hosting it on the outskirts. Thus, for example, choosing an event location near Heathrow will enable delegates to travel to the event very easily, typically taking a taxi directly from Heathrow airport to their hotel or even directly to the event location. However, there is not much to see or do in the Heathrow area and, if delegates plan to make the most of their visit to the capital, they may face several long tube journeys to and from central London.

Whatever your event, if you decide to host it in central London, you will almost certainly have to pay a premium. Those expensive central London post codes are easy to identify. If the first three characters of a postcode contain the letter “C” or the number “1″, then the location is very central and you will pay for the luxury of hosting your event there. With the most expensive commercial rents and therefore hire charges being found in postcodes “W1″ (the West End), “EC1″, “EC2″, “EC3″ and “EC4″ (the City of London), “WC1″ ( Bloomsbury and Gray’s Inn) and “WC2″ (Covent Garden, Holborn and the Strand).

Let’s say for example, you are a software company wanting to arrange training sessions for an international client base. You decide to take the route of computer training room hire. You have several different options. One would be to host the event in a hotel. This would have the benefit of convenience: once delegates reach the hotel, they have reached the venue and will have no more travel worries. However, the conference rooms available in hotels are not specially designed to host training events and you may need to factor in the extra work involved in coordinating the hiring and configuration of laptops or PCs, the hire of a projector and so forth.

Another option would be to hire a training room from a specialist training room hire company. Here you would lose the convenience of having the event location coincide with the training venue. However, you can expect to walk into a fully configured training room with all the equipment and facilities you are likely to need such as internet access and a projector connected to the PC being used by the trainer. Most IT training companies will also be happy to install software for you in advance of the trainer, either as part of their standard room hire facility or for an additional hourly charge.

The author is a training consultant a UK IT training company offering ASP.NET and AJAX training courses at their central London training centre.

Computers are a very popular item these days. Nearly everybody has one, whether it is a desktop computer or a laptop. However, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out what accessories we should buy for our computers, such as monitors or speakers. If you are looking for a new computer monitor and need help figuring out which to purchase, this article may be able to help you.

It is important to buy the right size computer screen. To find the best size, take a moment to consider all the programs you use and how much screen space they require. If they need a lot of screen space, try a wide screen monitor that is quite large.

To help you decide on the size of the screen, also think about how much space you have for it. If it is going to be on top of a crowded or small desk, it might help to measure the amount of space that will be available for the screen. You do not want to buy a screen, only to find that it does not fit in the place you wish to put it.

A great way to save time while looking for a new screen for your computer is to set a realistic budget. After the budget is set, only consider screens that fit within the amount you are willing to spend.

When you are shopping for screens, you may notice that some have attachments or arms. These arms make it possible to move the screen around in many different directions and to tilt the screen. This is very useful if you are placing the monitor in a hard to reach location.

Finding a new computer monitor can seem like a difficult task, but it really does not have to be. Decide on how big you need the screen to be by looking at how much space your computer programs need and by surveying the spot your are going to put it. Also, try to only consider monitors that are within your budget to avoid overspending.

LCD Monitors – Buying Tips

There is no television experience quite like the one you get from LCD monitors. A lot of us are used to the old CTR varieties, but quickly change our minds after seeing the quality that LCD presents. The text below is a discussion of things you will want to know about these monitors before you buy one.

In general, we usually know about what size of monitor we would like to have before we buy one. Another thing you should also think about it the display shape. Many of us are used to the old square versions, but find we much prefer the rectangular ones in reality. The ability to make adjustments to the height and angle are also important.

Take a look at the native resolution while you are at it. This is the number of pixels that make up the display. The bigger the screen is the bigger this number should be.

Another important thing to look at is the viewing angle. You don’t want to lose the ability to see what is on the screen when you moving from directly in front of it. That is, of course, unless you are working on some type of secret project. To prevent problems like this you will want to look in to buying monitors with wider viewing angles.

Contrast ratios are also important but their is no one recommendation that is agreed upon by manufacturers. As long as the ratio is something you like you won’t have to worry about anything else. A side by side comparison if different options is the best way to find what you like the most.

Refresh rate is something you will want to look at as well. This is measured in milliseconds and the faster the better. Faster refresh rates mean a crisper image.

Lastly, compatibility is also very important. Your computer needs to have the right connectors or you won’t be able to hook the new monitor up. It also needs to be able to work with the operating system you have without problems as well.

The best way to find something that you will be happy with is to visit a show room so you can compare various models. What looks good to another person may not look that great to you so the best way to figure it all out is to see for yourself.

The CCNA is where it all starts for Cisco training. This teaches you how to operate on the maintenance and installation of network switches and routers. The internet is made up of many routers, and many large organisations that have a number of branches use them to allow their networks of computers to communicate.

Gaining this type of qualification will most likely see you working for large commercial ventures that are spread out geographically, but who still want secure internal data communication. Other usual roles could be with an internet service provider. Both types of jobs command good salaries.

We’d recommend a specially designed course that covers everything you need to know in advance of getting going on the Cisco CCNA.

We’re regularly asked to explain why academic qualifications are now falling behind more qualifications from the commercial sector?

Key company training (in industry terminology) is more effective in the commercial field. The IT sector has acknowledged that such specialised knowledge is essential to cope with a technologically complex world. Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe are the big boys in this field.

University courses, for example, become confusing because of too much loosely associated study – and much too wide a syllabus. Students are then prevented from getting enough core and in-depth understanding on a specific area.

The bottom line is: Authorised IT qualifications give employers exactly what they’re looking for – it says what you do in the title: i.e. I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Designing Security for a Windows 2003 Network’. Consequently employers can look at their needs and what certifications are required to fulfil that.

We can’t make a big enough deal out of this point: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock professional support from mentors and instructors. You’ll definitely experience problems if you don’t.

Email support is too slow, and so-called telephone support is normally just routed to a call-centre who will take the information and email an instructor – who’ll call back sometime over the next 1-3 days, when it suits them. This isn’t a lot of good if you’re stuck with a particular problem and have a one hour time-slot in which to study.

Keep looking and you’ll come across the top providers which provide their students direct-access support 24×7 – including evenings, nights and weekends.

Never make the mistake of compromise when you’re looking for the right support service. The vast majority of would-be IT professionals that drop-out or fail, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

It’s quite a normal occurrence for students not to check on a painfully important area – the way the company actually breaks down and delivers the courseware elements, and into how many bits.

Often, you’ll enrol on a course staged over 2 or 3 years and get posted one section at a time – from one exam to the next. It seems to make sense on one level, but consider these issues:

How would they react if you didn’t complete each and every exam at the required speed? Often the prescribed exam order won’t fit you as well as some other structure would for you.

To be honest, the perfect answer is to have their ideal ‘order’ of training laid out, but to receive all the materials up-front. You then have everything in the event you don’t complete everything within their ideal time-table.

Several companies supply a practical Job Placement Assistance program, to help you get your first job. In reality it’s not as difficult as you may be led to believe to get a job – assuming you’re well trained and qualified; employers in this country need your skills.

Advice and support about getting interviews and your CV might be provided (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). It’s essential that you bring your CV right up to date right away – don’t leave it till you pass the exams!

Various junior support roles have been offered to trainees who are still studying and haven’t got any qualifications yet. This will at least get you on your way.

The most efficient companies to help you land that job are most often specialist independent regional recruitment consultancies. Because they only get paid when they place you, they’re perhaps more focused on results.

A good number of men and women, so it seems, conscientiously work through their course materials (for years sometimes), and then just stop instead of looking for the right position. Sell yourself… Work hard to let employers know about you. A job isn’t just going to bump into you.

There are four specialist areas of training in a full CompTIA A+ program; you’re thought of as competent at A+ when you’ve achieved certifications for just two specialist areas. This is the reason that most colleges only have two of the courses on their syllabus. In fact it’s necessary to have the training for all four areas as many positions will be looking for knowledge and skills of all four areas. You don’t have to complete all 4 certifications, but we would recommend you learn about all four.

A+ computer training courses cover diagnostics and fault finding – both remote access and hands-on, as well as learning to build, repair and fix and working in antistatic conditions.

If you feel it appropriate to add Network+ to your A+ course, you’ll additionally be equipped to assist with or manage networks of computers, giving you the facility to expect a better remuneration package.

How the program is actually delivered to you isn’t always given the appropriate level of importance. How many stages do they break the program into? What is the order and do you have a say in when you’ll get each part?

The majority of training companies will set up a program typically taking 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you complete each section or exam. This sounds reasonable until you consider the following:

Maybe the order of study insisted on by the company won’t suit you. And what if you don’t finish all the sections inside their defined time-scales?

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, it’s normal for most trainees to have all their training materials (which they’ve now paid for) delivered immediately, and not in stages. It’s then your own choice in what order and how fast or slow you’d like to work.

A study programme has to build towards a fully recognised major qualification as an end-result – not a useless ‘in-house’ plaque for your wall.

If the accreditation doesn’t feature a conglomerate such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then you’ll probably find it will be commercially useless – because it won’t give an employer any directly-useable skills.

It’s likely that you probably enjoy fairly practical work – a ‘hands-on’ personality type. Typically, the painful task of reading endless manuals can be just about bared when essential, but it doesn’t suit your way of doing things. Consider interactive, multimedia study if learning from books is not your thing.

Many years of research has time and time again demonstrated that connecting physically with our study, is far more likely to produce long-lasting memories.

Locate a program where you’ll get a host of DVD-ROM’s – you’ll start with videos of instructor demonstrations, followed by the chance to use virtual lab’s to practice your new skills.

You’ll definitely want a demonstration of the study materials from any training college. You’ll want to see instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and lab’s for you to practice your skills in.

Avoiding training that is delivered purely online is generally a good idea. You want physical CD/DVD ROM course materials where offered, enabling them to be used at your convenience – it’s not wise to be held hostage to your broadband being ‘up’ 100 percent of the time.

Finding job security nowadays is incredibly rare. Businesses will throw us from the workplace at the drop of a hat – as and when it suits them.

However, a quickly growing market-place, with a constant demand for staff (through an enormous shortage of trained workers), provides a market for real job security.

Reviewing the Information Technology (IT) market, the 2006 e-Skills study highlighted a twenty six percent skills deficit. Therefore, out of each 4 positions in existence in Information Technology (IT), companies can only source enough qualified individuals for 3 of the 4.

Acquiring the appropriate commercial computing certification is consequently a quick route to succeed in a continuing as well as pleasing career.

No better time or market settings could exist for acquiring training in this swiftly expanding and evolving sector.

One of the many uses of PDF documents is to provide us with a way for people to harvest information via an interactive form. Adobe Acrobat has some nifty features for creating such forms, distributing them and tracking responses.

The PDF format is a great option for forms since it will allow the user to see the form exactly as it was created. Web forms, by contrast, can vary depending on the operating system and browser software being used.

There is besides immediacy and flexibility of transfer. The form can be emailed to a collection of users at the same time. The transfer of the form then becomes a single undertaking. PDF forms can also be distributed via CDs and DVDs.

The capacity to create forms has long been a feature of Acrobat 9. However, Acrobat 9 Professional takes form creation to a new level in terms of simplicity and refinement.

Acrobat 9 has traditionally been a “magpie” application, relying on other applications to create all of its content. Now, however, forms can be produced in Acrobat based on a wide variety of pre-created templates: Invoices, timesheet, expenses etc.

As with previous versions of Acrobat, forms created in other packages can be used as the starting point for an Acrobat form. Adobe Acrobat will even automatically recognise the form layout and generate form fields automatically.

You can also utilize a printed form as the basis for an interactive PDF form. Simply choose the Scan From Paper option when creating the fresh form.

Once you have the fundamental form created, you can add in all the standard form controls. In addition to text fields, PDF forms support combo boxes, option buttons, checkboxes and, of course, submit buttons.

An added great feature in Acrobat 9 is to create a form which allows Acrobat Reader users to save form data when they have filled in the form. (This feature is normally only available with a full version of Acrobat.) To activate this facility, just choose “Enable Usage Rights in Acrobat Reader” from the “Advanced” menu.

To send off the form to group of recipients via email, simply choose “Distribute Form” from the “Form” menu. A Microsoft Outlook address book can be used to generate a mailing list or you can just type or paste in a list of recipients.

Returned forms are saved inside a special Acrobat file known as a dataset. When users complete the form and email it back to you, you simply click twice on the attached form. Acrobat 9 opens a special window marked “Add Completed Form to Data Set”.

Once all the forms have been returned and the data added to the dataset, you just open the dataset and export it as a CSV (comma separated values) file. This format is compatible with programs like Excel 2007 and Access which can subsequently be used to store and analyse responses to your forms.

In addition to learning about the ins and outs of building and maintaining computers, trainees involved in this training will have instruction on how to operate in antistatic conditions, as well as diagnostics, fault-finding and remote access.

You might also choose to think about doing Network+ as it will enable you to work with networks, which means greater employment benefits.

The area most overlooked by new students considering a training program is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. Essentially, this is the breakdown of the materials for timed release to you, which vastly changes how you end up.

The majority of training companies will set up a program typically taking 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you complete each section or exam. This sounds reasonable until you consider the following:

What if you don’t finish all the sections or exams? And what if the order provided doesn’t meet your requirements? Due to no fault of yours, you mightn’t complete everything fast enough and not get all the study materials as a result.

To provide the maximum security and flexibility, it’s normal for most trainees to have all their training materials (which they’ve now paid for) delivered immediately, and not in stages. It’s then your own choice in what order and how fast or slow you’d like to work.

It only makes sense to consider training courses which will move onto industry recognised certifications. There are way too many small colleges offering unknown ‘in-house’ certificates which will prove unusable in today’s commercial market.

If the accreditation doesn’t feature a conglomerate such as Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA, then you’ll probably find it will be commercially useless – because it won’t give an employer any directly-useable skills.

Usually, trainers will provide piles of reference manuals and workbooks. This can be very boring and not ideal for studying effectively.

Research into the way we learn shows that long term memory is improved when all our senses are involved, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Programs are now found in disc format, where your computer becomes the centre of your learning. Using video-streaming, you can sit back and watch the teachers showing you precisely how to perform the required skill, with some practice time to follow – with interactive lab sessions.

It would be silly not to view some examples of the kind of training materials you’ll be using before you sign on the dotted line. You should expect video tutorials, instructor demo’s and audio-visual elements backed up by interactive lab’s.

Seek out CD and DVD ROM based physical training media if possible. You’re then protected from broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.

How long has it been since you considered your job security? For most of us, this only rears its head when we experience a knock-back. Unfortunately, the lesson often learned too late is that true job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for all but the most lucky of us.

Highly taught and commercially grounded new workers are as a result at a resounding premium, and in all likelihood it will stay that way for many years longer.

Quite simply, acquiring professional IT skills during the coming years is likely the greatest choice of careers you could make.

If Cisco training is your aspiration, and you’ve no practical experience with network switches or routers, you most probably should start with a CCNA course. This teaches you the necessary skills to set up and maintain routers. The world wide web is built up of many routers, and big organisations with several locations also rely on them to keep their networks in touch.

As routers are connected to networks, look for a course that includes basic networking skills – perhaps Network+ and A+, before getting going with CCNA. It’s essential to have some knowledge of how networks operate before you start a Cisco course or you’ll probably struggle. Once qualified and looking for work, you’ll benefit from having a good knowledge of networks in addition to the CCNA.

Getting your Cisco CCNA is all you need at this stage – you’re not ready for your CCNP straight away. Get a couple of years experience behind you first, then you will have a feel for if this next level is for you. If so, you’ll have significantly improved your chances of success – as your experience will help you greatly.

You should look for authorised exam simulation and preparation programs included in the package you choose.

Due to the fact that a lot of examining boards for IT are from the USA, it’s essential to understand how exam questions will be phrased and formatted. It’s not sufficient simply answering any old technical questions – they must be in an exam format that exactly replicates the real thing.

It’s a good idea to have some simulated exam questions so you can check your knowledge at all times. Practice or ‘mock’ exams prepare you properly – then the actual exam is much easier.

Traditional teaching in classrooms, using textbooks and whiteboards, can be pretty hard going sometimes. If you’re nodding as you read this, find training programs which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts.

We see a huge improvement in memory retention when multiple senses are involved – learning experts have been saying this for decades now.

Start a study-program in which you’ll get a host of CD and DVD based materials – you’ll begin by watching videos of instructors demonstrating the skills, and then have the opportunity to use virtual lab’s to practice your new skills.

Always insist on a demonstration of the study materials from your training provider. The package should contain demo’s from instructors, slideshows and lab’s for you to practice your skills in.

It doesn’t make sense to choose training that is only available online. Due to the variable nature of connection quality from most broadband providers, make sure you get disc based courseware (On CD or DVD).

Speak with a knowledgeable advisor and you’ll be surprised by their many horror stories of students who’ve been conned by dodgy salespeople. Only deal with a skilled professional that asks some in-depth questions to uncover the best thing for you – not for their pay-packet! Dig until you find the right starting point of study for you.

If you’ve got a strong background, or sometimes a little commercial experience (maybe some existing accreditation?) then it’s likely your starting point will be quite dissimilar from someone who is just starting out.

Always consider starting with some basic PC skills training first. This can set the scene for your on-going studies and make the slope up to the higher-levels a a little easier.

Student support is absolutely essential – look for a package that provides 24×7 direct access, as anything less will not satisfy and will also hold up your pace and restrict your intake.

Don’t buy training courses that only support trainees with an out-sourced call-centre message system when it’s outside of usual working hours. Companies will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. But, no matter how they put it – you want support at the appropriate time – not as-and-when it’s suitable for their staff.

Be on the lookout for training programs that use several support centres across multiple time-zones. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to enable simple one-stop access and also access round-the-clock, when it’s convenient for you, without any problems.

Never settle for less than this. Direct-access 24×7 support is the only way to go with technical learning. Maybe late-evening study is not your thing; often though, we’re working while the support is live.

Once qualified and looking for work, you’ll benefit from having a good knowledge of networks in addition to the CCNA.

If routers are a new thing for you, then working up to and including the CCNA is definitely sufficient – avoid being talked into doing a CCNP. After gaining experience in the working environment, you will know if it’s appropriate for you to go to the level of CCNP.

You should look for authorised exam simulation and preparation programs included in the package you choose.

Steer clear of relying on unauthorised exam papers and questions. The way they’re phrased can be quite different – and this could lead to potential problems when it comes to taking the real exam.

‘Mock’ or practice exams can be very useful in helping you build your confidence – so when it comes to taking the real deal, you don’t get uptight.

Usually, trainers will provide a bunch of books and manuals. Obviously, this isn’t much fun and isn’t the best way to go about taking things in.

Where possible, if we can get all of our senses involved in our learning, then we normally see dramatically better results.

Learning is now available in disc format, where your computer becomes the centre of your learning. Video streaming means you can watch instructors demonstrating how it’s all done, and then practice yourself – via the interactive virtual lab’s.

You must ensure that you see some example materials from the company you’re considering. It’s essential they incorporate video, demonstrations and various interactive elements.

You’ll find that many companies will only provide training that is purely available online; and while this is acceptable much of the time, consider how you’ll deal with it when you don’t have access to the internet or you get a slow connection speed. It’s much safer to rely on actual CD or DVD ROMs that will not have these problems.

Ignore any salesman that offers any particular course without an in-depth conversation so as to understand your abilities and also your level of experience. Always check they have access to a wide-enough choice of training products so they can give you an appropriate solution.

If you’ve got a strong background, or sometimes a little commercial experience (maybe some existing accreditation?) then it’s likely your starting point will be quite dissimilar from someone who is just starting out.

If you’re a new trainee beginning IT exams and training for the first time, it’s often a good idea to avoid jumping in at the deep-end, starting with a user-skills course first. This can be built into most training programs.

At the top of your shopping list for a training program should be full 24×7 support through expert mentors and instructors. It’s an all too common story to find providers that only provide office hours (or extended office hours) support.

If you fail to get yourself 24×7 support, you’ll regret it very quickly. It may be that you don’t use it during late nights, but you may need weekends, early mornings or late evenings.
