Isn’t it funny how one day your computer can be running smoothly and then in a few months it can slow down to the point where you just want to throw it out the window? The real question is – exactly why did it slow down? Well the answer isn’t clear cut and easy to digest but most of it has to deal with how the operating system of your computer works. Most Windows based operating systems are designed to work as efficiently as possible, but that unfortunately isn’t the case in real life. What happens is that after time your computer starts to build up junk in many different areas and this is what slows it down (for the most part). All you need to do to make it faster is to remove the junk. The only problem is finding all of the areas that the junk builds up and also removing it.

So where are all of the areas that junk builds up on your computer? Well that is beyond the scope of this article, but what I can do is I can show you were to start. Most people after using their computers for about a year or more have downloaded multiple programs onto their computer that they no longer need, but they have never actually bothered to take the time to delete them. If some of these programs are still installed, they are taking up hard drive space and they could actually be running in the background when you are using your computer. This means that they are using your computers resources but you are not benefiting from them. By removing these programs that you don’t need anymore, you will free your computer of some of its valuable resources that you can then use.

By removing programs you don’t need you will be able to free up some resources for you to use. I only suggest that you remove a program if you know what it is and also if you know that you don’t need it. It’s probably best if you don’t remove a program if your not sure what it is – your computer might need it. Here’s how its done:

For those of you using Windows XP start off by clicking the Start button, clicking on the Control Panel icon and clicking on the Add or Remove Programs. Now just wait a little while since the list has to be created (basically the mor eprograms on your computer the longer it will take to populate). All that’s left to do now is to just remove the programs that you don’t need. To do this, just click on the program that you don’t need and selecting Change/Remove and following through with the rest of the removal process.

If you are Windows Vista user, click Start, go to Control Panel and make sure that at the top of the window that you have “Classic View” selected. Double click on the Programs and Features button (wait a few seconds for your programs to come up) and just select the programs that you don’t need and select Uninstall to remove them. Remember to only remove programs if you what they are and if you know that you don’t need them.

Who would have ever thought that your computer operating system would be to blame for your computer running slow? Well guess what – it is. Your computer’s operating system is designed to work as flawlessly as possible but unfortunately that isn’t the case. What happens is that when you fir get your computer there really isn’t anything on it and so if runs smoothly. The problem happens the more that you use it because junk starts to build up all over the computer in many different areas and this makes your computer run inefficiently. This is why people are so attracted to the idea of registry cleaners – they are designed to clean one area of your computer that runs inefficiently, but unfortunately it only cleans “one” area of your computer when there are many other areas that need to be taken care of. This is why after you use a registry cleaner your computer really isn’t that much faster.

Your computer’s operating system (assuming its Windows based) is designed to use RAM as a temporary working place. Now when some of these files are in RAM they also need to work with other files temporarily and in order to do this they need to use a space on your hard drive. This space is folder called your Temp folder and when window’s is done working with files in the Temp folder it will just delete them. The problem comes when your computer crashes, freezes or you manually kill a program. The files that were in your computer’s Temp folder never got deleted and after time a lot of files can build in this folder and slow your computer down. All you have to do is to just go in there and delete them. Here’s how to do it:

For those of you that are using Windows XP start off by simply closing all of your running files and programs and then clicking on the Start button. next, click on Run and type %Temp% in the little box that appears and then hit the enter button. Whats going to happen now is that you’re going to get another window that will show you what’s in the Temp folder. All you have to do now is to just delete everything that you can in that folder. If for what ever reason it says that you cannot delete a certain file, just skip it and then just move onto the next file.

For those of you that are currently using Windows Vista, close all of your running programs and files, click Start in the left hand corner of your screen and type Run in the start menu search box. A small Run window should comes up now. Just type %Temp% and hit enter. Now what you are going to want to do is to delete everything that you see in that folder. If there are some files that you cannot delete that are in that folder, then just ignore them and move onto the next one.

By cleaning up your Temp folder regularly you are first freeing up your computer of hard drive space which will make it run faster in the long run (it will have less files that it will have to manage) and your computer will also have less internal errors.

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate, chances are that you have the Aero effect turned on. The Aero effect is designed to make your computer’s windows have more of a glass like effect to them, which no one really needs at all. It also enables Windows Flip 3D which is something that no one really needs (if you don’t know what Windows Flip 3D is, open a few windows, hold the Windows Button down and press the Tab button. You should be able to cycle through all of your currently opened windows in a fancy format). These features are really just pointless things that Windows has added to make your computer look really cool. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:

Click Start, click on Control Panel and on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Click on Appearance and Personalize, click on Personalize, click on Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. Now in this new window under the Color Scheme drop down box select Windows Vista Basic. Click Apply and then OK. This should turn off the Aero effect.

Now the next thing that you most likely will not need that Vista has is the sidebar. Unless you actually use the gadgets on the sidebar regularly then I highly suggest that you completely get rid of it. In practical situations it really serves no purpose for the normal person other than making your computers look pretty. Here’s how its done:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray (the system tray is that little group of icons next to your clock) and select properties. Now when you are in the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box, just uncheck the box that says “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now all you have to do is to just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and hit Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now given yourself some more resources to use which in the long run will make your computer faster.

Their standard receiver features DIRECTV Active which lets you set up personalized updates for your local weather, lottery results, and your favorites list, plus it has parental controls with rating restrictions and spending limits.

Their DVR receiver can record 100 hours of satellite TV programming, pause and rewind programs to create instant replays, and fast forward through commercials. The on-screen guide allows you to search for shows by title, actor’s name, keyword, or channel.

DIRECTV’S HD receiver gives you high definition video for a crystal-clear picture, and features Dolby Digital audio for a realistic sound. Audio outputs allow you to connect your receiver to a home theater system or stereo.

DIRECTV HD DVR Receivers

Bottom Line

Both DISH Network and DIRECTV’s receivers are state of the art and have features and functions so similar that when it comes to whose receiver is best it’s six of one, a half-dozen of the other.

There are many different ways to make your computer faster out there, but once you have that handled there really is a limited amount of things that you can do to increase your productivity. One of these things being to simply make your applications quicker to get to. Think about it just for a second – how much time could you save if you were able to get to your applications quicker?

How much would you save if you were to add it up for a whole week or how about a month? I’m willing to bet that for the average person it would add up to a lot and even if it didn’t, being able to get to your programs quicker is just much more convenient. The user interface is something that you use frequently – you might as well spend some time to make it as convenient for you to use.

To being, let’s start off with the quick launch (if you not sure, the quick launch is that little group of icons that are right beside your start button). If you don’t see a little group of icons right beside your start menu, just right click on the taskbar and select Properties and then select Show Quick Launch to get them there. Now, in order for you to do anything you are going to have to unlock the quick launch. To do that, just right click on the task bar and select the Lock Taskbar option. By now you should be able to see some dotted lines which will allow you to resize it the quick launch window. Now all you have to do is to just find the top 3 applications that you use the most and then go through your All Programs list in the start menu and right click on their icons and select Copy. To add them, just go to your desktop, right click and select Paste. Now you should now see a copy of that icon on your desktop – all you have to do now to complete this is to just drag it into the quick launch area and the icon should be in bottom right hand corner next to the start menu (you can delete the shortcut that you copied to your desktop now since you will not be needing it). So every time that you start up your computer or just log on you don’t have to look all over the place those 3 programs – there right in front of you.

Now the start menu can also be of use to you when you are looking around for your applications. If you click on the start menu you will notice a faint horizontal line on the left hand side. Everything that is above this line is permanently there unless you manually remove it and everything below this line is programs that you have most recently used. What you’re going to want to do here is to add 3-5 programs that you use regularly to the permanent (the top part) of the list. Just go to All Programs on the start menu, right click on the program icon and select “Pin To Start Menu”. Do this for all 3-5 programs that you want to add to your start menu. Now you have your main 3 programs on your task bar and the other 3-5 regularly used ones on your start menu so you don’t have look around your computer to find where they are.

To take it to the next level you can spend some time cleaning up your desktop. A messy desktop can really slow down your ability to find what you are looking for. Delete all files that are unnecessary and put all important files into folders that are organized. You should really only have shortcuts to your applications and maybe a few important folders on your desktop.

Why Play Hidden Object Games?

According to the site PC Games Junkie, the very first hidden object game was ” Hidden Case Files: Huntsville in 2005. Since that time, HOGs or Hidden Object Games for your PC or Mac have become increasingly favored. Who is playing all of these ‘Find and Seek’ games? What’s the appeal? Are not they all the same after awhile? I shall endeavor to respond to these questions as I look at this genus of games. I have explored Game Forums and Sites, read reviews, played the games, and have written one or two reviews myself, and all the while I have asked myself, Why do I keep playing these games?

Hidden object games usually have colorful graphics, lovely music, cunningly sneaky hidden items to find, a story-line to follow, and additional mini games and puzzles to unravel. The tale line most frequently involves a puzzle to expose, clues and / or keys to assemble, strategies to bare, and journeys to experience! But where most HOGs have these core elements in them, some offer little twists and modifications, bizarre settings and different mini puzzles, to keep them fascinating!

Many Hidden Object computer games include a 60-minute free trial so can be played for nothing. Otherwise they can be played online at sites like GrandMatrix.com. The tale line usually starts of with you being charged with a not insignificant task like saving the hero, finding a murderer or even saving hte planet – no pressure. You are then whisked away to a brightly-colored, detailed drawn and cluttered room, stuffed with every possible object from an apples to a buses and supplied with a shopping list of items to find, and given a defined amount of time and hints.

With this task before you and the clock ticking it’s time to get stuck in! Start scanning the screen for glasses and golf balls, clicking on balloons and books, and smiling with satisfied happiness as you eventually reveal the cat and the cherries! Pride fills your chest as you successfully complete the 1st room, proud of how observant you are, how fast you are and how clever.

Many years ago as a child, I remember playing games of ‘I Spy, with my little eye” while lying in the dark bedroom I shared with my two younger sisters. Our powers of observation and memory were often sorely tested as we took turns and described items in the room, hoping the others had forgotten or never noticed them before.

It can be very rewarding to undertake a challenge and win! After a rough day at work, or simply forgetting about the mortgage and orthodontist bills for a few hours, you can become caught up in the adventure, searching for hidden objects, keys and clues to the mystery. My research has found that most HOG players are adults, relaxing and/or obsessing over inventory lists and missing treasure maps, secret codes and mysterious mansions.

The best Hidden Object Games I’ve played so far have to be Escape Rosecliff Island and Mishap: An Accidental Haunting. They both have excellent graphics, music, story-line, and hidden objects that are challenging without being so frustrating that they leave you pulling your hair out by the roots! You can find reviews of these two games plus download free trial version from GrandMatrix.com.

So next time you feel like a relaxed challenge and focusing your mind, try a Hidden Object Game and go on a scavenger hunt. You never know what you will find!

Looking to find the best deal on game downloads, then visit www.grandmatrix.com to find the reviews and 100′s of free online games to play.
